Assistants API OpenAI
Switched off since 26 August 2026
Official replacement: Responses API or Conversations API
What changes in your code
- The Assistants API (
beta.assistants,beta.threads, runs) was switched off on 26/08/2026. Any bot built on it has been failing since. - The replacement is the Responses API with the Conversations API: threads become conversations, runs become responses. OpenAI’s guide turns assistants into dashboard «prompts», but those reusable prompts are switched off on 30/11/2026 too: keep the instructions in your code.
- The tools (
file_search,code_interpreter) still exist in Responses, called a different way: follow OpenAI’s migration guide.

- Can my assistants be recovered?
- What you kept in them (instructions, files) has to move into your code and the Responses API’s file stores. Follow the migration guide.
- Is it a big change?
- Bigger than a model swap: the shape of the calls changes. That’s why it’s a full migration.
Rather I fix it for you? Model swap, €79; full migration, €290–490. I reply within 24 h with a fixed price.
