gpt-image-1 shuts down on 23 October 2026

OpenAI retires gpt-image-1 on 23 October 2026, and gpt-image-1-mini, gpt-image-1.5 and chatgpt-image-latest on 1 December 2026. The replacements are gpt-image-2.5-flare (fast, for everyday images) and gpt-image-2.5-sunburst (for precise editing). In code, the change is the model name.

What about DALL·E 3?
dall-e-2 and dall-e-3 were already switched off on 12/05/2026. If your app still calls them, switch to gpt-image-2.5-flare.
Which of the two?
Per OpenAI, flare is the fastest for everyday images and sunburst the most precise for editing. To generate images from text, start with flare.
Do the parameters change?
quality takes low, medium, high, xhigh, max and auto. Check the sizes you ask for against OpenAI’s guide before you ship.
