Promti or Shopify: one product told in 3D, or a shop for many

Shopify is an e-commerce platform: a store with a catalogue, a cart, a checkout, orders and stock, which Shopify hosts for a monthly fee. From Spain, its plans start at €24 a month billed yearly, or €32 month to month, and Shopify Payments takes a fee on each card sale.

Promti isn’t a shop. Its Product kit is a one-page site built around a single product in real-time 3D, with a buy button that opens your Stripe payment link — or the product in a shop you already have. The other kits do the same job for a place, an app and a studio.

So it’s rarely one or the other. Shopify is for selling many things and running the orders; a Promti page is for showing one thing so that people want it. Some businesses need the first, some the second, and a product brand can use both.

Trying itBuild the whole page in the wizard and look at it on a phone and a computer; money only comes in at the download.A three-day free trial with no card, then €1 a month for a while: three months on its pricing page, the first month on its trial-offer page.
What you getOne page built around a 3D scene: you add the words, the colours, the links and, in Product, a .glb model of your own product. An online store: themes and a theme editor, unlimited products, checkout, orders, and an app store Shopify puts at over 21,000 apps.
Hosting and domainPlain files for any host; Cloudflare Pages’ free plan, in the guide, costs nothing. A domain runs to about €10–15 a year.Hosting and SSL included, with a free myshopify.com address. Domains bought through Shopify start at US$9 a year, or you connect one you already own.
SellingOne buy button, to your Stripe payment link — Stripe takes 1.5% + €0.25 on a standard European card — or to the product in your existing shop. No cart, no stock.Cart, checkout, discounts, stock. Shopify Payments in Spain charges 2.1% + €0.30 per standard card online on Basic, less on higher plans; with another payment provider, Shopify adds 0.6% to 2%.
Pages and blogThe one page, with its legal page and a 404; nothing to publish articles on.Pages of your own and a built-in blog, in the same admin as the store.
Motion and 3DThe page is the 3D: the product in a scene that the scroll moves through, chapter by chapter.Product media can include 3D models (GLB or USDZ, up to 500 MB), shown with Google’s model viewer and in AR, in themes that support them. Anything beyond that means editing the theme’s code.
Themes and designThe design comes with the kit; you choose a palette or your own colours.24 free themes by Shopify and paid ones by other studios, from US$100 to US$500 each, sold as final sale. A theme’s code can be edited once it’s bought.
The filesThe site itself, in one zip: HTML, CSS, JS, your pictures, the typefaces.CSV exports of products, customers and orders; a theme can be downloaded, without the store’s content. Shopify only documents hosting elsewhere for custom-coded Hydrogen storefronts.
When you stop payingNothing happens: the purchase was the only payment.Unpaid for 28 days, the store is frozen and customers can’t see it. A paused store costs less, shows its products and takes no orders; a closed one keeps its data for two years.

Promti fits when…

  • You sell one product, or one above all, and the page’s job is to make people want it.
  • Payments can go through a Stripe payment link, or through a shop you already run.
  • You’d rather not keep a monthly plan going to sell a single product.
  • You want the product in real-time 3D as the page itself, not a 3D viewer in a product gallery.
  • You want to see the page with your product’s name and your words in it before paying.

Shopify fits when…

  • You sell many products, with variants, stock and shipping to manage: that’s what Shopify is for.
  • You need a real checkout: a cart, discount codes, orders to fulfil and refunds to issue.
  • You also sell in person, and want the till and the website on one catalogue.
  • You sell in several languages or markets from one store.
  • You want support you can reach by chat at any hour.

What each costs

Promti: €500, once, and nothing to Promti afterwards. The site is hosted for free on Cloudflare and the domain is around €10–15 a year; Stripe keeps its fee on each sale — 1.5% + €0.25 on a standard European card — with no monthly charge.

Shopify Basic, at the prices it shows for Spain: €24 a month billed yearly, which is €288 a year paid upfront and €864 over three years; month to month, €32, which is €384 a year and €1,152 over three. On top come taxes, per its terms, Shopify Payments’ fee on each sale (2.1% + €0.30 per standard card on Basic), and whatever paid theme or apps you add.

The two pay for different things. Shopify’s fee runs a whole store for as long as you sell through it. Promti’s price is one finished page; the selling itself happens in Stripe, or in the shop you already have.

Questions

Can I use a Promti page with my Shopify store?
Yes. The wizard asks the Product kit for a Stripe payment link, but its buy button opens whatever address you give it, so it can take people to the product in your Shopify store. The Promti page shows the product; Shopify handles the cart and the order. You’d pay for both.
Does Shopify do 3D?
For products, yes: a product’s media can include a 3D model in GLB or USDZ, which themes that support it show with Google’s model viewer and, on phones, in AR. The rest of the page is your theme. A Promti Product page works the other way round: the 3D scene is the page, and the words move around the product.
What does Shopify charge on each sale in Spain?
With Shopify Payments, 2.1% + €0.30 per standard card online on Basic, 1.8% on Grow and 1.6% on Advanced, each plus €0.30, according to its Spanish pricing page. Use another payment provider and Shopify adds its own fee of 2%, 1% or 0.6%, on top of that provider’s.
Can I take my store away from Shopify?
Its data, yes: products, customers and orders export as CSV files, and a theme can be downloaded, though without the store’s content. The only way Shopify documents to host a storefront elsewhere is a custom-coded Hydrogen one. A Promti page is plain files from the start.
Which one should a new product brand start with?
If you have one product and want the page to sell the idea of it, a Promti Product page with a Stripe link is simpler and has no monthly fee. If you have a range, or expect to within months, start with Shopify: its catalogue, checkout and stock are what you’ll need, and a Promti page can sit in front of it later.
